Quentin McCain's Proprietary Framework

The Q5 Shift™

Change the pattern. Change the performance.

A five-stage framework for identifying, transforming, and replacing the subconscious patterns that influence how leaders think, feel, and perform.

What Is The Q5 Shift™?

The Q5 Shift™ is Quentin McCain's proprietary five-stage framework for identifying, transforming, and replacing the subconscious patterns that influence how people think, feel, and perform.

It's built primarily for leaders, executives, business owners, and high performers who recognize that their external results are sometimes affected by internal patterns—self-doubt, stress, emotional conditioning, limiting beliefs, overthinking, fear, hesitation, or outdated identity patterns.

The Q5 Shift™ isn't simply about positive thinking or acquiring more information. It's about creating a meaningful internal shift that changes the way a person experiences themselves, their circumstances, and their ability to respond.

Why “Q5”?

The Q represents three interconnected concepts in Quentin's approach to transformation. The 5 represents the five-stage process that puts them into motion.

Question

Challenge the existing story.

Before a pattern can change, it has to be examined. What are you believing? What assumptions are you operating from? What meaning have you attached to an experience? What has been operating automatically?

Qualia

Change the subjective experience.

Transformation isn't only intellectual. People experience their thoughts, memories, beliefs, emotions, and identity internally. Changing the quality of that internal experience can change how they relate to the situation.

Quest

Move toward who you're capable of becoming.

The goal isn't simply to remove something negative. It's to create movement toward a more intentional identity, behavior, and future.

The Five Stages

Each stage builds on the one before it—from awareness, through emotional and meaning-level change, into practiced and intentional new responses.

01
Reveal

See what's really driving the pattern.

The first step is bringing what has been operating beneath awareness into conscious awareness.

This involves identifying:

  • Limiting beliefs
  • Subconscious patterns
  • Emotional triggers
  • Internal conflicts
  • Fears and assumptions
  • Identity patterns
  • Recurring behaviors
  • The meaning attached to past experiences
  • The gap between what someone consciously wants and what they consistently experience
Core question: What's really going on underneath this?
The goal isn't to judge the pattern—it's to see it clearly. You cannot intentionally change a pattern you haven't recognized.
02
Release

Let go of what no longer needs to run the show.

Once the pattern has been revealed, the next step is addressing the emotional charge, limiting meaning, or outdated internal response connected to it.

Release is about creating separation between what happened and what the mind learned from what happened. This may involve working with emotions, memories, limiting beliefs, internal representations, or other subconscious patterns.

Core question: What am I still carrying that no longer needs to control my response?
The goal isn't to erase history—it's to change the relationship with it.
03
Reframe

Change the meaning.

People don't respond only to what happens—they respond to what they believe what happens means.

Reframing involves examining the interpretation, assumptions, beliefs, and meaning attached to an experience and creating a more useful perspective. This is where a person can begin moving from “This proves I'm not capable” to “This showed me something I needed to learn,” or from “I have to get this perfect” to “I can pursue excellence without making perfection a requirement for my worth.”

The event may remain part of the person's story. The meaning doesn't have to.

Core question: What else could this mean?
04
Rehearse

Practice the new internal pattern before life demands it.

A new belief or perspective becomes more powerful when it is mentally and behaviorally rehearsed.

Rehearse involves intentionally practicing the desired response, the desired identity, new behaviors, and new emotional states—for future situations, difficult conversations, leadership moments, performance situations, decision-making, and responding under pressure.

This is where the transformation begins moving from insight into embodiment. The goal isn't simply to know the new response—it's to make the new response increasingly familiar.

Core question: Who do I need to be when the moment arrives?
05
Respond

Live from the new pattern.

The final stage is where the internal shift becomes visible in real life.

Instead of automatically returning to the old pattern, the person has greater ability to consciously choose how they think, feel, communicate, decide, and act. The objective isn't to create a life without pressure, uncertainty, or difficult emotions—it's to develop the capacity to respond differently when those things inevitably appear. The new pattern becomes the new response.

Core question: How will I choose to respond now?

Reveal → Release → Reframe → Rehearse → Respond

See it. Free it. Change the meaning. Practice the new pattern. Live it.

The Transformation

The Q5 Shift™ moves a person through: Awareness → Emotional Freedom → New Meaning → Embodiment → Intentional Response.

Or more simply: from automatic to intentional.

The ultimate goal isn't merely to feel better temporarily. It's to help someone create a more intentional relationship with their thoughts, emotions, identity, decisions, behaviors, and performance.

How Q5 Relates to Quentin's Other Modalities

The Q5 Shift™ is the framework—not a single therapeutic or coaching modality. Depending on the individual and the situation, Quentin may draw upon established approaches including NLP, Hypnotherapy, Timeline Therapy®, MindShifting®, identity and self-concept work, values work, emotional clearing, and other subconscious-focused approaches.

Those approaches are tools that can support the process. The Q5 Shift™ is the overarching framework that organizes the transformation.

How does The Q5 Shift™ work?

The Q5 Shift™ moves a person through five stages: Reveal (bringing what's been operating beneath awareness into conscious awareness), Release (addressing the emotional charge connected to the pattern), Reframe (changing the meaning attached to an experience), Rehearse (practicing the new response before life demands it), and Respond (living from the new pattern in real life).

Why is it called “Q5”?
